Taking and developing notes.

I wouldn't call it an obsession..

But I like to take notes. Recently I switched over from physical notes/notebooks to a smaller ipad with an apple pencil. It's been great. My main hiccup with paper notes is not having an easy way to search through them.

The notebook obsession

This debate is one that Haley would tell you has been going on forever in my head.. There is just something about paper notes that you can't get with electronic notes..

I've been reading a book called: "How to Take Smart Notes" by Sönke Ahrens.

I've heard a lot of people saying this book is "life changing" I wouldn't call it that but then again I don't heavily rely on my notes other than for fun. It did however bring up some holes in my note taking that is worth checking into.

The reason I felt like paper notes had no easy way to search through is because it didn't.. Once I put something in the notebook, be it a thought, a number, a sketch. I never went back to the idea. I'd always "check it later."

My previous note process was:

  1. Write it down on paper ✍️

That was it. I didn't do anything past that lol.

Now that I've become more aware of it I've started using a little bit of a different system:

  1. Write it down on paper (optional) ✍️

  2. Transfer to ipad (develop further) 💡

  3. Transfer to computer/notion to bookmark 💻

This allows me to categorize and develop the note/idea a bit further. It makes me realize how many notes I need to go back through in my notebooks to develop and categorize.

Recently I started using Notion for personal/work and that is another whole system...
